Netflix adds a fiction disclaimer to The Crown season 5 latest trailer ahead of the show’s upcoming premiere. The historical fictitious drama TV series tells the story of the British royal family, especially featuring the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The season 1 starts prior to her ascension to the throne, when she was just a young lady. So far, The Crown has covered most events that had happened at the Royal Residence, sticking majorly to their recreation by depicting characters based on the real members of the Royal family in different moments at their lives.

Season 5 will be the first time the show airs after Queen Elizabeth’s death in September. Ahead of The Crown season 5 premiere, the directors released some teasers highlighting some controversial plot points, that caused intense backlash.

Most of the criticism commentates on how heavily the upcoming season is supposedly going to be focusing on Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ tumultuous marriage and events that eventually lead up Diana’s tragic passing.

While the show does not portray the horrendous car accident that took her life, it will still include most of the happenings that led to her death and events afterwards – which might be disturbing for some members of the Royal family.

However, it was especially Dame Judy Dench’s letter to The Times that compelled Netflix to release a statement defending the integrity of the show and including a message on the official trailer describing that it is a “fictional dramatisation”.

“The Crown has always been presented as a drama based on historical events. Series Five is a fictional dramatisation, imagining what could have happened behind closed doors during a significant decade for the Royal Family — one that has been scrutinized and well-documented by journalists, biographers and historians,” the statement read.
