The first ever winter football World Cup is just around the corner, expected to take place in November and December. Rescheduled due to the fact that Qatar is too hot during the months of June and July (when the world cup is normally hosted).

This rescheduling of the tournament caused it to play out between the Premier League season. Hence, affecting the form of clubs in England, because the English players will have little time to rest. The FIFA World Cup will also cause major disruptions to the new Premier League campaign.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 will start on Monday, 21st November and continue till Sunday, 18th December 2022. Whereas the Premier League began on Saturday 6th August and it ends on Sunday 28th May 2023. Therefore, we will be four months into the season before the 2022 World Cup begins.

The Premier League will break after the weekend of November 12/13 before resuming fixtures again on Boxing Day. This is because a lot of footballers from Premier League clubs will play in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

These players will have a week of preparations with their national teams before heading out to the international tournament. They will then have only eight days to recover in time for the league’s resumption should they reach the World Cup final.

However, this six-week break could be ideal for some players, who fail to qualify for the World Cup, so that they can rest up for the second half of the season.
